TV announcers

Being that Lacob is a long time Warriors fan, I hope his next order of business after cleaning out our front office and hiring a new coach is to right one of Cohan's biggest wrongs.... BRING BACK PAPA to announce the games!!!

Thank You bada! Warriors games were so much more enjoyable when we had Papa instead of Bob Fitzgerald.

What happened with Papa?. Because, you know, you might know the whole story, but from here, I didn't even know who Greg Papa was til I started posting on TOS.

The story that I always heard, Im not sure if it was true or not was that Bob Fitzgerald basically came in before Papa began contract negotiations and offered to do the job for much less than they were paying Papa. Fitz was already employed by KNBR at the time and he just slithered in.

Here is the story I remember but I cant verify that it is the truth.

The Warriors (mainly Cohan) did not like the fact that his newly purchased team had an announcer that was not exclusive to the Warriors. Papa did other local sports as well... I think the A's and someone else... not sure if he did the Raiders yet. Cohan wanted someone exlusive to his REGAL Warriors brand. They approached Papa that he would have to give up everything else. Obviously he would need a big raise to consider that. Negotiations started happening.

Papa shared some of these happenings with his friend Bob Fitzgerald. During the negotiations, Fitz approached the Warriors behind Papa's back and using the knowledge he had, went in with a lowball offer to announce the games that undermined Papa's negotiations... they hired Fitz and the rest is history.

Again, I dont know that is the truth but I do know that Papa and Fitz were never on friendly terms after his ousting so this makes a bit of sense.

Thats pretty much how I understood it all...........both at the time and from later revelations.

Fitz, being the snivelling wiesel he is...........lowballed and stabbed his mentor in the back.

Papa definately did Raiders as well Bada, dont know how I know that.

yeah, I could not remember if he got fired then (in addition to doing the Spurs) went to the Raiders or he was already doing the raiders.

Kinda fits what I've heard of Fitz... Well, we can only hope he gets canned as soon as the new owners take over.

Thanks for sharing, guys.

I hate BOB FITZGERALD!!! I wasn't a big Papa fan when he was with the A's, but other than that he's been pretty good. I'm sure he likes his gig on chronicle live though. I won't hold the A's job against Papa though, since he had to work with Ray Fosse.

That is such a good show too, Papa is great on there, and the guests are pretty good as well. Plus all the KNBR crew gets some time there also.
